The "cable" that extends the antenna has been previously broken off at
the end and "shortened." OTOH, it could have been affixed to the motor
by threading it too far through. These are just my guesses.

I periodically use a silicone spray lube on my '84 300D antenna to clean
the
shaft(s) to prevent sticking due to dirt.  The antenna appears to have
four
sections, but only the top (narrowest) and bottom sections extend no
matter
how much effort is taken in cleaning and running the antenna up and
down.
I've even tried pulling on the top section as hard as I could while it
was
extending to see if I could help "unstick" the center two sections.
Anybody
got a clue?  TIA.
