I've owned a CD and several 300D's and I can say that the battery compartment is tighter in the CDs. You won't notice the difference with a Wal-Mart or discount parts house battery because these are smaller than the correct battery but the difference is very obvious with the correct size Mercedes or aftermarket battery.
The battery will lift right out of a 300D but you will struggle while pulling a battery out of a CD because some of the sheet metal interferes with the back edge of the battery. You have to lift up the back edge about 2 inches first & then pull the battery out at an angle. The same situation exists with the 280CE - I owned one of these too. The space where the battery sits & where the fuse box is at (opposite side) are tighter due to the fact that the windshield is more sloped on the CD & CE, but Mercedes used the same piece of glass that they used in the 4 door 123 body cars. This moved some of the sheet metal more foreword on the CD.
