A very good idea.  Also, keep any body parts away from the probable 
path of expansion just in case.  I've had one "pop" when the cheapo 
side compressors slipped down the coils putting a new strut in my 
Buick.  Probably would have broken my neck if that upper bearing had 
hit my chin -- instead, since I was well back, it hit the bench on the 
way down.
