As usual I got lazy and didn;t type as much as I should have. When I said "raping" I was talking about this one instance where the alt was $178 and the shop wanted $578 (or so) - to me that's a bit extreme.
Also, I know the shop has to make a profit. No problem there. Also - building in some fat for returns (there are some truely awful customers out there) is necessary. Whenever I get a shop to use my parts I always agree to get any replacement parrts - my time and cost & agree to pay the labor again. That's only fair. Don't want anyone to think I believe all/most are dishonest. I've found several shops that will use parts from my suppliers. But I don't make this requet every time & I give each shop a lot of business. Even though I don't let shops do lots of jobs, I do pay people to do FE alignments, exh work, AC work and my pickup needs pro servicing - things are either too small for my hands (it's japanese) or its a black box problem.
