Official top speed in a 300SL is 161. That was with a broken-in "development engine" and a 3.24 rear end (3.46 was standard, 3.89 and 4.11 also available). It only broke 160 once, but that was all it had to do. For a 1950s car, they feel remarkably stable and and composed on modern interstates. Can't go over 100 with the doors open, though, as the rear glass will blow out.
