There is one disadvantage: MB has used the plastic head to reduce hand injuries for decades. Having been hit in a Benz, I'd be more than willing to put up with the plastic breaking over having a hand seriously damaged by impact with a metal key head.
While seated and strapped in, I got a cut on my arm from the corner of the face of the climate control, projecting from the smashed dash. I assume it happened when the car stopped going sideways. No possibility of hand damage from a key in my accident, as the keys ended up well inside the dash panel, but your arms thrash all over the place. Having one's hand slammed down HARD onto a metal key head sticking out at a right angle from the dash would NOT be good.
