Installed my overhauled vacuum pump last night and started up the car. No vacuum at all. It was dark, and I was frustrated, so I went to bed. In the middle of the night I woke up with the realization that I had installed one of the check valves upside down. This morning, I was able to remove the cover with the body of the pump in place and flip that one valve over. Brakes and shut-off are now working flawlessly -- but since the problem was always intermittent I am going to have to wait a little while to be sure it's fixed. But so far, so good.
