If you have control over the data that is in the PDF, make it unique
text...then, use Adobe's own search functionality to highlight the text.  A
search that returns no results will pop up a dialog.  You can use the
absence of the dialog as a successful pass (need to code around timing of no
results window).  Not the ideal way to test, but a pretty decent workaround
I have used in the past when no other solutions existed..
