Try this ((3[0-1])|(2\d)|(1\d)|(0?[1-9]))\-[A-Za-z]{3}\-(1[0-9]|20)[0-9]{2}works for both: 6-Jan-2009 and 06-Jan-2009,it limits the day from 1 to 31 , not so restrictive for month it has to be 3 letters long (it's not case sensitive) , the year goes from 1000-2099. I can write it in a different way , let me know if it works! @[email protected] your solution won't work beacause [a-z][a-z][a-z] selects only lowercase , also you have to be more restrictive when you write reg exp.
