Tried both of these
sendkeys "{BACKSPACE}"
Sendkeys "%{LEFT}"
but none of them worked on IE9 .. should i have to activate the browser before
I perform these ? ( I heard browser.activate does not work anymore after QTP
9.2)

use corresponding keyboard shortcut key... Make use of Sendkeys method and
apply it.. It will work. But activate browser before applying sendkeys I think
Backspace may be the corresponding shortcut key
sendkeys "{BACKSPACE}"
For Alt+Left,
I think you better try Sendkeys "^{LEFT}"... I am not sure.. you try this.
