Thanks for the reply. I have tried putting the string value and still it 
will not work. This is really wearied ...
I have updated the line of code as 
 browser("IE").Page("Page").WebEdit("loan").Set "7777"
OR 
 browser("IE").Page("Page").WebEdit("loan").Set 7777

both the cases will not work. But if remove the entire code for :-

Declaration i.e. Dim statements and the excel reading data. The code works

Pls help
