Here are my first impressions of v0.12_win. Being unrefined, these may be picky and pert, sorry!
=================== win installer runs fine, but doesn't allow me to specify location in start menu. merkaartor starts up in german, but preferences>use_language is unchecked and defaults to english Cancel & Apply buttons are in english, OK is same in german ;-) preferences>GPS: serial port defaults to \\.\/dev/rfcomm0 (should be COM1: for windows or a dropdown enumerating registry:HKLM\hardware\devicemap\serialcom) the german translation is excelent, except for just two words: "Keine Positionslösung" for 'No Fix' sounds strange to me, how about "Keine Position" or "Unzureichende Daten"? And I bet noone understands what "Lösungstyp" is supposed to be. when i activate yahoo, the zoom level is changed (this may be a 'feature, not a bug' but it's nevertheless annoying) I miss a zoom_to_rectangle button in the toolbar (I for one don't like mousewheel zooming at all, and I whish I could deactivate it) yahoo tiles load rather slowly (not your fault, I guess), however caching seems to work fine (it didn't in my previous versions). I revise my opinion on invisible nodes/ways: If I don't see them, why should I ever want to change them, so don't let me select them (but give me some menu option to do it as well) I don't get the consequences of view>set_projection (no visual change) The default layout confused me deeply (tags at lower_left except of upper_right), but thanks to the new UI I could get back the look&feel easily, the docking system works perfectly, good job, chris ;-) I am about to deactivate tag translation, let me explain why: For example 'residential'. There is some ambigousity in there even in English. If you translate it literally, it would be "Wohnstraße", which is unacapptable because both german and austrian law name this term in a completly differnt manner. So the translator has choosen "Ortsstraße" which would be 'inner-village-road'. A reasonable choice, but ambigousity is at least doubled. I'm slightly afraid that translating tags may lead to a "babel syndrom" (all parties have a perfectly working symbol set, but none are compatible) Whoops! another questionable translation: "Übersetze Standardtypen" --> "Vorgabe-Tags übersetzen" (??) Tried to change language back to english, didn't succeed. (Its no problem to require a restart in this case, but the prog should tell me ...) Restarted in English, found 'translate standard tags' for "Übersetze Standardtypen" (should be OFF by default, IMHO) yahoo is still slow (does it come from cache? In this case it would actually be rather slow) yahoo is geting better (I guess now it's from cache) I may have missed a point, but isn't there supposed to be a lock_layer function?
