The problem seems to be that when the style file specifies anything for
a map element that a mapper is drawing just as a node (and which doesn't
have an explicit icon assigned), it disappears. Since the Classic style
has a definition for leisure=park, try creating a node with this tag to
verify it.

No matter what I try in the style editor, I don't get such a node to
show up. Specifying an icon for each defined element could be a
workaround if a fix in the style engine is not possible.

The address is a bit different - it *does* show up, but only in the
highest zooms. It would be nice if a dot was drawn instead in the lower
zooms for such features (until zooms that no such node shows up at all).
I have now modified the Mapnik styles in SVN so that they display the
text until the nodes go away (not sure if that works with all fonts
though).

Cheers
  Colin

PS: Thanks for the preferences-in-API work, Chris!
