Interesting idea. If this is proposed, I'd say that a single node would be enough to store that metadata in its tags. A problem might be that this node would have to be placed automatically by Merkaartor when somebody specifies a map offset for his current view. Where should this node be placed? Should it be displayed end editable? How are those nodes detected and used?
