Recently the Select and Move tools have been combined into one (per preference) so that editing the map is faster and involves less tool selections. After an initial test and some further experience, I came to the opinion that the old behaviour with two separated modes was still easier for me, because it is actually complicated to first select something and then hope that it can be moved.
What about this: Combine both tools into one, but only use one mode at a time. The distinction can be done through a keyboard hotkey, like Alt or Control. Normally the Select mode is used and while the Alt/Ctrl key is pressed, anything under the cursor can be moved. Should multiple objects be selected, move them all along with the one under the cursor. The hotkey must of course not interfer with any present hotkeys like e.g. for multiple selection. The mouse cursor appearance should be changed while that key is held down. Maybe it could even use both toolbar icons and also indicate the current mode on them. I believe this could make the new combined interaction mode easier to use and more predictable. It could possible replace the option and enable moving with the hotkey by default, as well as optionally after clicking on the Move toolbar/menu item. The hotkey could also just switch to the other mode in any case. (Select "Select" mode and switch to "Move" with Alt/Ctrl - or select "Move" mode and switch to "Select" with Alt/Ctrl.) -- Yves Goergen "LonelyPixel" <[email protected]> Visit my web laboratory at http://beta.unclassified.de _______________________________________________ Merkaartor mailing list [email protected] http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/merkaartor
