Could you send me a snapshot of Merkaartor showing this behaviour, please.

Might be unrelated, but minimal supported Qt version is 4.4.3 (I just
noticed it isn't updated in the INSTALL file), just because it is the
earliest version I can test with.
4.4.2 is a very old version.
