The story on this link is very poorly written, even for a yellow journalist!

"Marin Mersenne was a French monk who in 1644 wrote in a
treatise on physics and mathematics that there were only 11
prime numbers. Various mathematicians since Mersenne
added a few more prime numbers; there are now 37 known
              prime numbers."

I never realized that there were only 37 prime numbers!

I imagine that the true facts will never be reported, as by then it won't be
sensational enough to make good copy. It's amazing that Blosser had orchestrated the
whole thing under their noses, what with the outstanding software he (apparently)
wrote himself, "his" web site, the server, the communications protocols, and several
thousand other hackers boasting their results to "his" site. (Btw, what's the
emoticon for "sarcasm", or even "mudslinging"?)

Even more interesting to me, is the fact that with about an hour's worth of work,
the reporter could have written a much better story (as far as the facts are
concerned), and added a lot of information about what GIMPS really does. But that
wouldn't be sensational enough to print :(
