Hi all,

Version 17 of prime95 is now ready for downloading at
http://www.mersenne.org/freesoft.htm. If all goes
well I will port it to the other platforms soon.

It is not required that you upgrade. Only those interested in
doing double-checking must upgrade. Over time it would be nice if
all machines did upgrade (two people accidentally checking the same
exponent will constitute a double-check as long as at least one of them used
version 17). But there is certainly no rush.

The relevant portion of whatsnew.txt is included below.

Best regards,
George

New features in Version 17.0 of prime95.exe
-------------------------------------------

1) Prime95 can now be used to double-check its own results.
2) Machines less powerful than a P133 will default to double-checking
    assignments.
3) The total number of errors that occur during the Lucas-Lehmer test
    are now output in results.txt.
