There are several other sites which also provide mirrors, listed on George's
downloads page at http://www.mersenne.org/freesoft.htm .

Hrm... I just looked at the rate my Quad Xeons are doing (2-Compaq 6500s and
a 7000), and they are getting .31sec/iteration. Yet my peiced together
Dual-412 (OC'd 300s) gets in the .21-.22 range... (same size FFT) Any
thoughts as to why the Xeons are doing so poorly? Their affinity is for
seperate processors (so they aren't jumping around). And I don't think that
cache differences are a problem (cuz they got 512k and 1024k respectively).

Any thoughts?

The only thing that came to mind was ECC cache or something?

Subject: Mersenne: Exponent Expration and stuff

I checked out an exponent tonight using the manual testing forms... My account
report says
that the exponent should be done in 183 days, but that it expires in 120 days. Is this
normal, because it dosen't sound right.

Just out of curiosity, has GIMPS shown any hit in performance since SETI@Home
started? I thought about switching projects, but stayed here because I figured SETI
whould have enough people and I didn't like the way it wasted cycles when the
screensaver wasen't running.

The kindof sad part of GIMPS is that since we live in a universe of finite time,
and primes are _infinite_ we can never even claim to have found even one millionth of
one percent, much less all of them. With SETI@Home, once contact is made (if ever) its
all over. At least we know we will never run out of work!

As far as the reward for finding a new primes goes, if my slow K6 actualy finds
one, George Woltman and Scott Kurowski will be getting at least $10,00 of it each...
if not more, because really, they did all the work. I only spent 3 or 4 minutes
downloading and installing the program.

As Spike Jones said in his lithiverse...
"Thank you very much, Lucas and Lehmer. May you and all GIMPSers live for all eternity
in mathematical nerdvana. Good night {8^D spike"

I coulden't have said it better my self (or anywhere close for that matter) and indeed
good night, its nearly 1 in the morning :)

Good Luck Everyone!!!!!

I sort of remember something being said about Prime95's timing being
incorrect for Xenon CPUs. It was either that the speed
auto-detection was wrong (check that Options->CPU matches what you
think it should be, or that the number of clock ticks wasn't counted
correctly. If both of these seem OK, try timing a few hundred
iterations by hand and see what you get.

Brian, thanks for replying... I didn't think my messages were getting through to the
base.com server.

Actualy, it is double checking on my 586-133. I have my K6 running first time
LL's, but it dosen't take nearly as long and I'm planning on geting a much faster CPU
soon anyways.

I had a older LL test runing on this computer and the same thing happent, I did
have it send new completion dates, but the experation date didn't change. Eventualy I
released the exponet and got a new one and had the same problem. I'm probably just not
reading something something right. Can someone else check their account report to see
if the same thing is happening or if its just me?

Also, its probably not a big deal, but I was checking everything else on my
account report. Awhile ago I changed my e-mail address. I put my new one into
Prime95's user information but my report still shows my old one. I changed it about 4
months ago, I'm sure prime95 sent in my new e-mail address and its not a cached copy.

Am I just going crazy, or is something wrong?
