<<I downloaded the paper and found it delightful. Thanks for making it
available. Where is Thornton High School ?>>

You're welcome! Thornton High is in Colorado - we enjoy low, low air
pressure, wildly variable weather, and more cosmic rays than you can shake a
stick at!

Thanks to Larry (?? Last name ??), who notified me that I can simply click
Save As HTML in MS Word! Bill Gates performs a miracle again! *grin* I put
the HTML version in my private directory. For those who live in a world free
of Micros~1, simply go to:
http://members.aol.com/stl137/private/Mersenne.html

Apparently, the capital "M" in Mersenne is necessary for the URL. For those
with MS Word 97, the .DOC version will preserve some of the more esoteric
things, like supersuperscripts. However, the graphs are visible in the HTML
version, and 98% of it is readable. I've completely run out of web space now,
though - I'll have to weasel more from AOL. *sigh*

Subject: Mersenne: History of PrimeNet

My Mersenne primes paper (in both its .DOC and .HTML formats) has been
updated to include a history of PrimeNet that was kindly provided by Scott
Kurowski. I'm sure that by now some are falling ill with URL Repetition
Syndrome, so I won't mention the URLs again.

Looks like after I updated it, a capital "M" must be typed in "Mersenne.zip"
AND "Mersenne.html" to access my paper.

If you have a PC and are interested in joining a coordinated search for
a factor of the double-Mersenne number MM61 (= Mersenne number
M2305843009213693951), have a look at

There's information about it at:

I got my copy from an online book store.

That book is controversial, and most people in-the-know don't agree with it.

Pleasse tell us what there is to disagree with.

This is off-topic, but there was prior work on the Mark I, in Germany by
Zuse, and in England on the code breaking project. There is no clear
inventor of the computer in the eyes of most historians. Much of the
controversy is covered in chapter 8 of "ENIAC" by Scott McCartney and other
books such as ""Portraits in Silicon". Iowa State University seems
overzealous in promoting Atanasoff.
