to disable fastfind (which is part of MS Office), do all of the following.
1) start->settings->Control panel -> Fast Find... from the menu, select
'stop indexing', then delete each index thats listed.
2) remove 'fast find' from the startup group (start -> programs -> startup
...).
3) to really remove all traces of it, run Office Setup again, find the Fast
Find tool in the various tools thingies, and uncheck it, then let setup
remove it.
