I just messed with a program that alters the 8087 control word, then I
realized that this could affect Prime95. Would a program that alters the
8087CW interfere with Prime95?

Punched cards didn't have to be readable Hollerith; the maximum storage
per card was 80 12-bit columns, or 960 bits when binary punched.
The average card is about .006" or so thick by 3 by 8".
(About 6700 bits per cubic inch of card; compare that to a CD in its case
at 440,000,000 bits/cubic inch.)

We still use the cards in our machine shop; they're quite handy for
temporary shims, keeping metal parts from marring each other, etc.

Interesting/Annoying Mersenne Side-Effect

Hello All, I've been involved in GIMPS for about 2.5 years now, several machines,
OSes. Recently I installed prime95 on a IBM Intellistation Dual uproc. It seems my
combination of soundcard+headphones is VERY sensitive since when I'm running 1/2
prime95s I can "hear" them chugging along on the headphones. There is a low volume
high pitch periodic (2/s) noise emanating from the speakers. As soon as I turn prime95
off, it ceases. The volume setting has no effect on it.

Has anyone else had this problem? I'm pretty sure its a faulty sound-card, just
wondering if anyone had an idea on how to fix it. Thanks in advance. -

I had this same problem too. The solution is to mute the microphone. Don't know why,
but it works.

Hi,

I recently downloaded prime95 v19 (latest) and I run Windows 98. In the
previous version, prime95 used to run minimized when Windows 98 booted
up. Now the program runs maximized. Any way I can fix that? Most of the
options are grayed out and the preferences, tray icon, and Windows 98/95
Service don't seem relevant. Any ideas on what to do?

As to those errors I reported earlier it appears my cpu couldn't handle its
450mhz rated speed. Or maybe it was my motherboard. Either way I've
underclocked to 400mhz and the problem disappears along with the quake 3
problems. CPU temp went from 139 F to 130 F and mother board went from 97
to 90F
