Subject: Mersenne: Account inconsistency

Can anyone explain this inconsistency in what the server believes the MSRC
account has done?

The individual report page gives back (at the head of a lot of other stuff)

Account ID LL P90* Exponents Fact.P90 Exponents P90 CPU
CPU yrs LL Tested CPU yrs* w/ Factor hrs/day
- -------------- ------- --------- -------- --------- -------
MSRC 139.823 732 0.386 8 1806.22

and yet the corresponding line in the top producers page reads

16. MSRC 139.448 731 0.386 8 1801.39

Those two snapshots were taken seconds apart, but the discrepancy of one LL
test has been there for weeks, so it's not a transitory phenomenon caused by
a result having been only just reported to the server.

Just curious,
        Paul

You can email George about testing one of the exponents on his manual
testing page (www.mersenne.org/range2.htm). You should be aware that those
exponents are rather larger than those currently being given by PrimeNet.
This means a longer runtime (by about 8-10 percent) and reduced chance of
finding a prime.

Nathan Russell

I have a hunch, but it could be wrong. If a double-checker found one of
your results wrong, you would have lost credit for that exponent. However,
the report might still list it, since it should by all means count towards
your total number of exponents *processed*.

Actually, I suspect it's that results have been turned in, and
that the account report was "grabbed", since the last top
producers report update. The server hasn't updated it since
07 Jun 2000 19:01 (Jun 7 2000 12:01PM Pacific)
I've experienced similar situations in the past when the server
doesn't update a report every hour as expected, and the report
remains unchanged for a day or two as a result...
BTW, the server not updating a report every hour has been
happening quite frequently lately... :(

Eric

P.S. The partial top producer lists don't update even if the full
length report does. But I believe it's because the screwy nature
of the full length report. If you want to see what I meen, take
a look at the full length top producers list. It begins like...

Mersenne PrimeNet Server 4.0 (Build 4.0.031)

I only DC with my Alphas--heck, I only have *two* machines (out of 8) doing
first time LL. :) Don't get me wrong, I'd like to find a new mersenne
prime, but I feel the DCs are underrated in importance. And since this
project is 'vote with your CPU', I am. :)

Thanks for the suggestion. Ernst said the same thing.

Verily DCing is the place to be with a mean machine, with fast turnaround to
spice up doldrum summer daze, and -- yes! -- a P-1 result 67 bits deep
just when all hope seems gone. Love it!

Best Regards,
Stefanovic

If we only had some great P-1 code for the Alpha... Ernst? :)

Is a single Double Check always enough to retire an exponent?
