<<The milestone we cross this week is 50 quintillion floating
point operations, or 50 exaflop.>>

Holy cow! I used to think that I would never hear the word "exaflop" used
seriously in my lifetime. (Though I still doubt that I'll hear "exaflops"
used seriously.) I'll have to make a new GIMPS banner for it. I've updated
my banners recently and sent them to Scott Kurowski; does anyone else use
these things? The PNG format is great.

That's cool! Right after I send this E-mail I'm going to update my web site
and remove the old banners directory. This will break your images if you've
linked to my directory directly. However, I have a completely new and
good-looking gallery page (still at http://mersenne.cjb.net ) that presents
all of the new .PNG images (and a new banner) and I also have a ZIP file of
all the banners. Hopefully, this will result in faster load times for
everyone. :-D I won't be making GIF images ever again.

there are still a LOT of folks using Netscape 3 and other such browsers that
don't support PNG.

Subject: Mersenne: Maybe U know this.

Maybe you know this. Get the program Optout? Well I did that and also the
Zone Alarm. Optout removed and disabled all the spy programs. I had 13
areas logged. Well I felt pretty secure after I downloaded the Opera
Browser and stopped using the I.E. Browser. Well, one day I was looking at
extended memory blocks (EMB's) , or in laymans terms , the RAM in the
computer when it is on, like the 16M, 32M or 64M RAM that programs run in.
Well, I had always been worried about the files Mm2048.dat and Mm256.dat
files. Seems they are files that windows needs. I tried deleting them once
and had to completely re-install my whole setup disk. I had a look at the
files and found they contained every url:, web site, that I had ever
visited. I thought, hmmm., I found that there were two invisible files in
the history folder. I deleted the history, but the invisible files were
still there if I right click on folder and go to properties. Anyway, In RAM
memory I found the url's of every website I had ever visited. This meant
that windows had read the Mn2048.dat and or Mn256.dat files into memory
when I had booted up the computer. This made me mad. All a spy bot program
had to do was read RAM. It wouldn't even need to access a file on my
computer. And wind-dose was compiling this list of url's on my computer
without my permission or knowledge, in a file I couldn't read without great
effort. Try it sometime. Then when I deleted the history file, and was
feeling like my web history was deleted, I was decieved. So to cut a long
story shorter than it could be I downloaded a great prog.
called "Webroots Window Washer". http:\\www.webroot.com
It pulled the teeth on the .dat files leaving empty files in place. Now I
feel a little better. You should consider that:
1. All email, and web trafic is stored somewhere.
2. Much email is read and re-read.
3. Someone is looking over your shoulder.
4. Just because you are paranoid doesn't mean they are not out to get you. :)

Handmade.
