Yes, I have noticed behavior like this as well. It is the exception
to Mary's description of the factoring iterations. It occurs when you
have a factoring assignment in your worktodo.ini that you have
started, but are not currently working on, then the iteration # that
is reported is often something different from the usual pattern. I
have not observed this enough to figure out the pattern.

So, rearranging your worktodo.ini is the reason your factoring
iterations went down on the third day.
