To elaborate a bit on what Ilia said:
- using foo.modeset=0 - disables the graphics driver foo
- nomodeset is equivalent to nouveau.modeset=0 i915.modeset=0
nvidia-drm.modeset=0 -> aka all the drivers are disabled
Since you managed to install it:
- boot without any modeset lines
- get the output of dmesg (ssh to the machine if needed) + attach as plain
text
- list the version of kernel/mesa/libdrm/xf86-video-nouveau installed
