Toggling the option changes the ABI produced. Esp. when you consider
earlier Xservers where libglx.so was a major user.
The early Intel QA team had _ton_ of issues with that.

From a perf. POV it does help, plus the Nvidia blob has used the
same(?) TLS magic as well.
Some platforms (some BSDs, Haiku, Solaris + deriv.) do not quite
support it yet, and I've poking those people to fixup their C runtime
library.
