--disable-debug is used by distro builds, so having the debug symbols still available is still required.
Ok than that was just my wrong expectation what --disable-debug does.
I would rather have --enable-debug stop fiddling with CFLAGS, so it doesn't revert to -g -O0, that is weirder to be honest. :-)
We have merged the "-O0" stuff for --enable-debug? I'm using that as well, but it's indeed a bit strange.
