the problem here is that you store the mails with the transport encryption,
the correct thing to do is to re-encrypt the mails with something that is fit
for data-at-rest. also nothing prohibits you to index the plaintext mails
(irrespectively of the transport/at-rest encryption used) and encrypt the
index as well. but this use-case goes beyond the scope of autoencrypt.
