OR, you could talk to your IT department and ask them what type of proxy server is being used and what is the recommended way to connect to the outside world. In this case the type of the proxy is the most important part - the most common is HTTP/HTTPS proxy that accepts CONNECT commands, but there can be variations, like required authentication, or it could be SOCKS4 or SOCK5 proxies, which are completely different.
