Nevermind. You are right. I made the mistake of assuming that the nitrogen behaves like the Sabre board (= that it reads the u-boot from the SD card). When I boot, it indeed is a U-Boot version from 2014. I'll upgrade.

Hm.

I let bitbake generate the entire image. That is, rootfs+boot partition+partition table+u-boot in one file, which I copied over to the SD card with dd. Plus, the current u-boot version in meta-fsl-arm-extra is actually 2016.03: https://github.com/Freescale/meta-fsl-arm-extra/blob/master/recipes-bsp/u-boot/u-boot-boundary_git.bb

Hello,

I just built an image for the nitrogen6x with poky, meta-openembedded,
meta-fsl-arm, meta-fsl-arm-extra, meta-fsl-demos all at the latest
master. boundary-kernel version is 4.1.15.

Looking at /dev/ shows that there is no /dev/fb0, fb1, or any fbX device
node!

I suspect that you need to upgrade your U-Boot.

The latest from Boundary is v2016.03:

There are some notes in the section labeled "New Features" here
about how to use U-Boot to configure your display(s):
