Hi Bob,

SDK 2.0 1703 GA release is the last QorIQ SDK(Yocto based) which supports
both PPC and ARM targets, Layerscape SDK(Ubuntu userland based) has replaced
QSDK, only ARM machines will be supported. The first formal release is LSDK-
1706 which has been announced and available in both http://www.nxp.com and
https://lsdk.github.io/.
In future, the Yocto recipes for ARM targets will continue to be updated in
meta-freescale & meta-freescale-distro layers to align with new LSDK releases,
the recipes of PPC will be removed. The bug fixes of PPC targets will be merged
in legacy branches of corresponding Yocto layers.

Thank you for the reply and information Zhenhua.

So, 2.4/rocko won't have any powerpc support from NXP on
meta-freescale.
[Zhenhua Luo] Yes

Again, I think this is a mistake since meta-freescale
isn't only for the exclusive use of NXP developers.

I suppose the Yocto project should also purge mpc8315e-rdb.conf from meta-
yocto-bsp master to completely kill off PPC from Yocto going forward.
[Zhenhua Luo] mpc8315erdb is selected as a sample BSP of PPC by Yocto
community, the recipes of this board are totally from poky instead of
meta-freescale, actually QSDK doesn't support this PPC machine for years. The
source of boards support in meta-freescale layer is from QSDK/LSDK, since LSDK
doesn't support PPC, we removed PPC targets from meta-freescale layer.

Thank you Zhenhua for the further information.

I have been reading through the Layerscape SDK documentation and working with flexbuild. Since this doesn't use the Yocto Project build system, I had assumed NXP was going to cease with Yocto Project activities, which I thought was very disappointing. However, from your comments, it seems the opposite is true.

Can you please confirm the following:

NXP will continue supporting Yocto Project / meta-freescale for the Layerscape devices supported by the LSDK; however, NXP will no longer formally release any new SDK based on Yocto.

If this isn't true, then please clarify.

Thanks again,

Bob

Best Regards,

Zhenhua

Should I submit the patch?

RIP NXP PPC

Bob
