Thanks for the information. With honister, the video display at least seems to be somewhat accelerated, to the point where the machine is usable. However, there's an issue with video corruption, even in unaccelerated Qt windows. The corruption looks like short spans of random pixels sprinkled on the screen, if that makes sense. Any idea what might be going on there? I've never seen that before on other machines, or on the same machine when running older (gatesgarth) code.
As far as vaapi is concerned, I haven't been able to get that to work at all - gst-inspect vaapi does list all the supported elements, but doesn't show any enabled features. Which recipes need to be enabled and installed in an image to get that to work?
