It appears they do.
I reverted that patch and did a build. The snd_soc_skl module no longer
fails, and sound over HDMI is working out of the box on my Joule.
I see that the snd_soc_skl module is still loaded automatically, which I
find strange as I'd assume the _skl portion designates Skylake, but oh well.
