Thanks a lot for the prompt reply! That explains. Now I'm wondering how
to best pass that flag, and to which part of the build exactly. Is there
any example how to do that in Yocto?

It seems buildroot passed that to its toolchain wrapper, but I don't see
an equivalent of that in Yocto.
