We don't directly support rust usage in PetaLinux. 2022 is sufficiently old enough (Honister) that it may or may not even work properly.

2023 is based on Langdale, and a lot of work was done with Rust to support this behavior, but it's not something we actively use or test. (With that said, we're not breaking what is there either.) So I'd expect it to work as well as it does in upstream Yocto Project.

I know it's a long shot to ask about this here, but in the end the problem relates to Honister underneath 2022.2 of PetaLinux. I asked about it on the forum:

I can't find any report related to this happening in Yocto directly, so something is off in how PetaLinux configures the environment. The support for rust-native and cargo class seem to be part of Honister. Then I can't find what mailing list would support it.

Thanks in advance for any hints.
