Currently zynqmp-generic (or the variants of cr, dr, eg, ev and the other generics are all qemu based and will boot with the regular flow in QEMU.)

Currently (this is going to change!) each of the boards boots from a boot.bin file that sits on the SD card image that is constructed. We've got some early work (see scarthgap-next) that starts to add support for a boot.bin to be separate from the SD/EMMC image... but we're not yet ready for that.

Normal workflow for me:

[setup layers/project]
MACHINE=zynqmp-generic bitbake core-image-minimal
MACHINE=zynqmp-generic runqemu nographic core-image-minimal

Patches to enable it are the first part.  But enabling it isn't
enough, I need specific steps in order to build it and run it on a
board (preferably a QEMU emulated board) in order to show it 'works'.

Would be best if the test cases can be implemented with the standard
Yocto Project test harness, but at this point I'm not picky.  A simple
readme file explaining how to build and test it would be enough.

As I haven't used QEMU much, do you have any QEMU emulated board (e.g.
utilizing the regular fsbl flow) which could be used as a reference?
