I think my actual issue was that I got stuck with a URL that had /t/#u or /T/#u at the end and it became a really long page containing all emails, so I came up with a non-fix for how to shorten the page. I tend to enjoy the pages with just one email + thread view most[1], as then the navigation is forced via the thread view that is forcing me to think about where to navigate next while being good at showing how the thread evolved.
