Bruce Tognazzini seemingly read my mind on this issue; if you're
interested, read his article about how programmers "stole" the web away
from the common user, by making it hard to create anything more than a
static page. Hmmm...dynamic content over a web connection, in an
easy-to-author mechanism...why does that sound familiar? :-)

He also has an interesting piece on why it's better in many cases to
create a web-aware app than to try to design an application within the
limited confines of a browser window. He suggests that the public's
relentless push toward web-based apps be "...overcome by presenting the
proposed software as a SuperBrowser, rather than presenting it as, "you
know, like 1984 technology, but it connects to the web.""
Again--hmm...a SuperBrowser?...where would we find something like that?
