Depends a lot on what you're doing.  Screen redraw speed is quite a
bit faster on Windows than on Linux, file system access and process
startup times are a little faster on UNIX.  But the only really
striking difference I'm aware of is the time it takes to load a really
large stack (say, 4MB): in this case Linux is fastest, Windows 95/98
is a little slower, and NT is dog slow.  The latter is due to serious
problems in the memory management components on NT.  As with the
related problems in memory management on MacOS, this is something we
plan to address in 2.3.
