On Windows, try:

put word 1 to -2 of
queryRegistry("hkey_local_machine\software\classes\http\shell\open\
command\") into gWebBrowserPath

On the MacOS:

send "http://www.whatever.com/" to program "Finder" with "GURLGURL"
