import snapshot from rect <rect>
export paint to file <"/mypaint.pbm">

This will export to a Portable Bitmap format file that, in my experience,
Graphic Converter will open and that will also reimport into MetaCard. I
doubt many other Mac/Windows apps would open it though...

Alternatively, failsafe card exporting to native formats may be achieved
with our Externals Collection. Invisible cards may also be exported:

Can you elaborate on what you are trying to do here?

The launch command may be used on Mac and Windows for opening specified apps
- and specified documents in specified apps. If you want to open a document
without first knowing the application, our previously mentioned external
permits opening of documents without specifying an app i.e. like
double-clicking the document in the OS.

Check out <http://www.xworlds.com/metacard/metaclass.htm>. The using files
with MC article has info' on opening apps and documents.
