Just thought I'd share this with the list. I have a client who is a
retired gentleman who has "adopted" an elementary school in a
poverty-stricken area of Massachusetts. He loves those kids, volunteers
his time there several times a week, and is pouring resources and time
into enriching the lives of these less fortunate children. He has
purchased Macintoshes for almost every classroom and provided software
for the children to use.

One of his favorite things to do is ask the teachers what software would
help the kids, and then hire me to write it. (It's one of my favorite
things to do too. :)) He recently came up with an idea to teach addition
and subtraction to very young children, which I implemented in MetaCard.
I received this note back from him:

"Thanks again. I showed this to my son-in-law who is a software
engineer...He was really impressed: "I couldn't do that." Thought you
should know."

The program only took me 16.5 hours to write, of which at least half was
graphics creation and had nothing to do with programming. I am sharing
this with the list because I think it serves as much as a tribute to
MetaCard as it does to me.

If you are curious, I have uploaded the stack here:

Feel free to use it with your kids if you like. It runs on Windows okay too.
