Now that the server seems to be behaving a little better, I'm proud to
(finally) announce the availability of MetaCard 2.3 beta 2. You can
get it for Macintosh PPC+68K, Win32 (Windows 3.1/95/98/NT), Linux, SGI
Iris, HP 9000/700, and SPARC Solaris from the directory:
ftp://ftp.metacard.com/MetaCard/2.3/

This is primarily a bug fix release over beta 1, but a few
improvements have been made in the UI and documentation. Also note
this comment in the README file:

> One of the new features in this release has been found to cause

> scripting technique. In previous releases, it was perfectly
> acceptable to use the same name for both a variable and a custom
> property. This no longer works in 2.3 because you can now use a
> variable anywhere a custom or standard property would be used.

Please check your stacks for the above conflict and let us know if
this is going to be a serious problem. It's not too late to do
something about this before 2.3 is released, but currently no changes in
this area are planned.
