Is there a way to obtain the freesize of a stack and so determine whether
it needs compacting? Compacting does take a while on large stacks and I
would prefer to use it only when necessary.

Am I correct in assuming that the superCard functions hasMemory / heapspace
(to test if enough memory is available for an operation) and stackspace
(the current size of the internal application stack) are unnecessary given
mc's dynamic memory management and the amount of RAM users now normally
have available? Is there a way to warn a user that they don't have enough
memory to perform the next operation (such as displaying a large image)?
