So the new KM file is created with the correct time and size?

That's what it should do if there really is a ~ backup file (to
prevent you from ruining it if the main KM file was a "short save" in
which case it may still open but won't have all your data in it).

This process is very simple and only involves the system calls
unlink() and rename(), so I'd still say that a network permission
error is the most likely cause of the problem.  The only other thing I
can think to check would be to write a script that puts the fileName
property of the stack in a visible place when the stack starts up.
May be that there is some special character or something in the name
that's not being accepted by the file server.
