Like you i have customers who do not want to use Quicktime. So what is the best : to
get an other solution to display video file or to give my customers to my
competitors :-(

But i must advocate for my customers : from their point of view, refusing Quicktime
is not always stupid.

Lot of machines are able to run Metacard but not Quicktime. Installing the 7 MB of
QT3 for playing the 2 MB of Metacard, is not always wise.

>From a technical point of view, they may be right also. Quicktime is not the
best solution for digital video today on PC.
Quicktime supports on windows cinepak and sorenson. These codec are not standard and
limited to a resolution of 160x120 to 320x240 pixels.
New computers and new videocards display MPEG1(CD Video - resolution from 320x240 to
768x512) and MPEG2 (DVD - resolution from 768x512 to 1280x1024).
Quicktime do not support these formats on Windows.
Cinepak is an outdated and inefficient codec (low compression and poor quality).
Sorenson is a good codec (high compression, high quality) but is mainly oriented on
low-bandwidth video for the internet ; it can not compete with mpeg for cd-rom
delivered video.

There are also lot of companies where the workers are not allowed to install
software on their disk.
A very big advantage of Metacard against other packages is that Metacard plays very
well from a cd-rom without installing dll nor xtra on the user's disk. With
Quicktime, this advantage is lost...

Do not underestimate the difficulty for the general public to install Quicktime.
The first reason of user calls to my phone support are quicktime installation
problems ... That's a bad experience to help by phone a customer to install
Quicktime or to solve the problems between Quicktime 2 and Quicktime 3 or 4.
