Scott Rossi asked: >Can I *set* the current directory? Yes, it's as simple as "the directory". The SLG states that 'the directory' is the current working directory when creating, opening and deleting files and directories... put the effective filename of this stack into tDir set the itemdel to "/" set the directory to item 1 to -2 of tDir put the files However, to ask /answer file at a specific directory you use the directory path in the syntax itself (which confused me for a while also)... put the effective filename of this stack into tDir set the itemdel to "/" answer file "Select..." with item 1 to -2 of tDir filter "*.mc" ask file "Save as..." with item 1 to -2 of tDir filter & "/untitled.txt" HTH /H PS: "Wherefore" means "Why" (sometimes "Which is why"), not "Where", but is oft confused!
