Yup.  I make my stacks on a Mac, but use .wavs for all 
my sounds (if I ever do decide to port the project to 
windows) .

QuickTime on Mac (2.5, maybe even 2.0, and later) plays 
wav files nicely.  I think the "play" command should 
play wav files, too... but if they're encoded strangely 
at all, it will just play static.  Compressed wav files 
won't play... at least of one compression... someone 
else knows more about this than me, let them talk!  :)

Every Mac with QuickTime installed will be able to play 
your wav files (when called with the player or 
playmovie(is that it?) command).  Aiff, wavs, and lots 
of other sounds will all work fine.
