To make a submenu, you need to place a tab before the menu item.

Name of submenu
    Sub menu item 1
    Sub menu item 2
Name of next non sub menu item

In order to use the existing MC text menu, you need to edit the stack to
extract the button, and the relevant scripts that set it up and operate it.
The set up scripts are probably going to be in the card or stack because
they will only be executed once during loading, the operation scripts most
likely in the button. To take the stack apart, the easiest way is probably
to make an editable copy. Try running:

clone stack "metacard menu bar"

In the message box.
